What are the other functions of lactic acid? 

• Lactic acid is an organic acid used as a preservative, for example in personal care products or foodstuffs. It has good antimicrobial properties for inhibiting pathogenic bacteria. It is less harsh and suitable for applications where gentleness is important (e.g. food preservation, sensitive surfaces). Galtane Descaler is intended for technical use and is not food-grade.  

• Do you want to descale your coffee machine effectively and economically? Most branded coffee machine descaling agents are often lactic acid-based. Galtane Descaling Agent, which is lactic acid-based, is an economical alternative. Start the descaling process in accordance with your machine’s instructions (recommended contact time: approximately 15 to 20 minutes). Dilute Galtane Descaler with 50% water.

• Water softening (limescale reduction): lactic acid binds the limescale ions dissolved in the water (calcium and magnesium ions) and prevents them from settling as limescale deposits on the fibres of the laundry. These limescale deposits would otherwise make fabrics rough and stiff. Thanks to neutralisation by lactic acid, fabrics become softer and more supple.

• pH neutralisation: lactic acid lowers the pH of the rinse water to a slightly acidic level (approx. pH 3–5). This pH range allows the fibres (particularly cotton or linen) to retain their natural suppleness, as their structure relaxes and the fibres align more harmoniously against one another. The lower pH also prevents detergent residues and surfactants from adhering to the fibres. The result: soft, residue-free laundry.

• Other benefits as a fabric softener: freshness and odour removal: lactic acid neutralises unpleasant odours, such as sweat, musty-smelling clothes or chemical residues. Gentle on sensitive skin: thanks to its natural composition, the risk of allergic reactions or skin irritation is minimised. Sustainable alternative: environmentally friendly, biodegradable and free from synthetic additives, as often found in commercial fabric softeners.

• Directions for use: Pour approximately 50 ml Galtane descaler into the fabric softener compartment of the washing machine. No additional rinsing is required after washing: fabrics feel naturally soft and fresh to the touch.

On which surfaces is Gatane lactic acid-based descaler not suitable?  

Do not use on marble, limestone, travertine, polished concrete, lime plaster, etc.
